Columnists (and paragraphers) spent endless amounts of time explaining the “typewriter girl,” that newly independent woman who was still known by the machine she worked. Wrote one “paragrapher” thoughtfully, “The typewriter girl does not thump the alphabet just for her health. She learned how to manipulate the key-board through necessity. It was a condition and not a theory that confronted her. She saw a territory of action before her and rushed forward and planted her claim. She is there to stay.”
