The wicked typewriter (1888)

One journal opined in 1888 that the criminal element was using typewriters with impunity to conceal their identities, writing “…there is very little satisfaction for any one who tries to trace up the author of such a document.” However, typewriters occasionally gave up their identities – see “The typewriter as detective.”
